Electric vehicle charging goes live at Staffordshire University

Staffordshire University’s electric vehicle (EV) charging points have gone live at its Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford campuses.

Electric Vehicle Charging

The University has introduced 26 double charging points run by Vend Electric, on both its College Road and Leek Road sites in Stoke-on-Trent, included a number of disabled EV parking bays. There are also six charging points installed at the University’s new Centre for Health Innovation, Blackheath Lane, Stafford.

The completion of our electric vehicle charging campus transformation project, means that our campus is now well-equipped to meet the increasing, and future, demand for EV charging provisions among our staff and students.

The charging points are available for all students and staff to use.

With the UK Government committing to banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, improving the electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the University was high on the agenda.

The network of charging points will support the growing number of people within the University’s community who now use energy-efficient electric vehicles.

Helen Rutherford, Head of Campus Facilities Management at Staffordshire University, said: “The completion of our electric vehicle charging campus transformation project, means that our campus is now well-equipped to meet the increasing, and future, demand for EV charging provisions among our staff and students.

“Sustainability continues to be a key focus for the University, and we continue to introduce new initiatives, like EV charging, across our campuses to drive forward our sustainability agenda.”

The charging points are easy to use and operate on a pay as you go basis. Currently, the network is only available to staff and students who should email the University’s parking team (parking@staffs.ac.uk) for access to the network and must download the Vend Electric App, to be able to use the EV charging points.

The EV charging points will flash blue when ready to use, green when connected and charging, and red if there is an issue.
