Training and CPD

All our courses are focused on life-long learning and skills development, and you will benefit from the very latest treatment simulation techniques and the expertise of our clinically experienced lecturers.

We also offer employers access to a large portfolio of flexible professional training, short courses, CPD masterclasses and bespoke training packages, while also providing access to progression pathways to higher education through micro-credentials.

Funding and partnerships

The Centre for Health Innovation has been part funded by Midlands Engine and the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

The Centre for Health Innovation is a CAE Centre of Excellence in recognition of our leadership and commitment to advancing education to improve patient safety.

Internationally recognised research

Research teams at the Centre for Health Innovation are recognised internationally for their work. Our interdisciplinary approach to research means that our academics work across a variety of fields. Our connections and collaborations bring value to local and global communities and impact on lives across the world.

Our research creates impact in areas such as health, science and wellbeing through work with communities of practice such as nursing, midwifery, social work, the allied health professions, and teaching. Some of our most recent research projects include:

  • NuRS: Understanding Nurse Retention and its impact on patient Safety outcomes in secondary care and mental health
  • AmReS: Ambulance workforce Retention and Safety.
  • C-NuRS and C-AmReS: workforce retention and configuration in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on patient safety.

The University works in partnership with the sector on many research projects and some of our current partners include Birmingham City University, NHS England and NHS Improvement, James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust.

Civic responsibility and engagement

We aim to project our expertise and provide opportunities across the region supporting local communities through the creation of jobs, training opportunities and life skills that will enable our local community to flourish.
