How to apply

We’re so pleased that you would like to study at University of Staffordshire. To help you navigate the application process, we’ve put together some essential information.

There are several routes onto the courses we offer. Our experts are here to ensure you have the full picture and that you make the most of your skills, qualifications and experience when you apply.

If you have any questions, simply call us on 01782 294400 or email enquiries@staffs.ac.uk.

When to apply

September start

You can begin applying for courses up to a year before you want to start your studies. The main application deadline for September 2024 entry is 31 January 2024. Although you’re encouraged to meet this date, late applications can be accepted through UCAS until 30 June. Any full-time applications submitted after then will automatically be entered into Clearing.

January start

If your course begins in January, please apply to UCAS in the usual way. Applications must be received before the course start date.

Applying after the deadline

If you’re looking to apply between the main January deadline and Clearing, you can talk through your options with one of our advisors on 01782 294400. It’s important to remember that grades aren’t everything when it comes to starting your future in higher education. We also consider non-traditional qualifications and relevant experience.

Deferring your entry

If you wish to defer your entry onto a particular course for a year, we will still welcome your application. Please indicate your reasons for deferral on the application form.

Applying through UCAS

If you are interested in a full-time undergraduate degree, you should apply though UCAS. It’s the central organisation that processes applications for full-time undergraduate courses at UK universities and colleges.

These courses include honours degrees, DipHEs, foundation degrees and HNDs. For part-time and distance learning courses, you will need to apply directly to the University.

You can choose up to five different courses on your UCAS form. There is an application fee of £27.50.

Here’s a checklist of what you’ll need:

  • The correct four-digit UCAS code for each course you choose. You can find course codes in our prospectus or on the relevant course page on our website. You will also need to include the institution code – University of Staffordshire’s code is S72.
  • Details of your qualifications.
  • A personal statement. We’ve got some handy tips to help you compile your statement
  • A reference from a teacher, advisor or professional who knows you academically.

For further details about the application process, visit the UCAS website.

Disabled applicants

No applicant judged to be academically suitable will be refused admission on grounds of disability without compelling reasons. However, it’s important you tell us on your application form of any impairment so, wherever possible, we can ensure that we provide the facilities and support you need.

Please apply as early as possible. For an information leaflet or informal discussion, please contact the Student Inclusion Team.

International applicants

If you are an international student looking to study one of our undergraduate courses, you need to apply via UCAS or through one of our recommended agents. The application link can be found on the individual course page of our website and a list of agents can be found in our dedicated 'country' pages. Please take a look at our country specific entry requirements before applying. If you have a query about your qualifications, or have a question about our application process, please speak to our International Recruitment team.

Applying direct to the University

If the course you are interested in isn’t covered by UCAS, or is a part-time undergraduate course, you can apply directly to us. The application link can be found on the individual course page of our website.

What happens after I've applied?

Admissions

After we’ve considered your application, we will write to you and notify UCAS of our decision. If you receive an offer letter from us, you’ll be invited to visit us at an Offer Holder Day.

In some cases, you may be invited to an interview before we decide whether to offer you a place.

After receiving your results

No matter how confident you feel about achieving the results you need, things don’t always go to plan. If you don’t meet the conditions of the offer we made you, it may still be possible to get onto your chosen course. Contact us for advice as soon as you can.

The Clearing process gives thousands of students a second chance to find a place in higher education. If you go through UCAS Clearing and decide to contact us again, remind us that you applied to University of Staffordshire during the first applications phase.
