Social sport

Social sport is all about getting involved, making friends and trying something new that fits alongside your studies and other commitments.

Fancy dodgeball or rugby? Or how about joining a walking group? Other popular options include frisbee, yoga and Zumba. You can also take part in tournaments and other sporting events.

It’s a great way to make friends and try something new. The sessions are open to people of any ability, so don’t miss out. And with so much to try, you’ll soon find something you love.

Flexible sessions

Our Social Sport programme gives you the flexibility to join in with our sport and fitness activities at times most convenient to you. It's designed so that you can dip in and out and work around your own schedule, while still giving you the opportunity to join in a variety of sports, activities, tournaments and events throughout the year.

Every week, we run 26 sessions in 23 different sports. All equipment is provided and the ‘give it a go’ activities are completely free.

What's on

  • Social Sport runs throughout the year, giving students and staff the opportunity to get involved with a range of sports at a time that suits them.
  • They include female-only sessions, such as our ‘fit and fab’ programme, and other fitness classes.
  • For a charge of £15 per person, you can also take part in a five-a-side football league. It covers eight weeks of football throughout a semester and includes the chance to win the five-a-side cup!

Sessions include:

  • Football
  • Tennis
  • Badminton
  • Lacrosse
  • Basketball
  • Non-contact rugby and American football
  • Hockey
  • Netball
  • ...and much more!

Fancy trying something a little bit different? We always try to include sports you may not have had chance to try before, such as Futsal, Indoor Climbing, Fencing, Ultimate Frisbee, Martial Arts and more.

Accessible sports

We are looking to grow our offer of disability-friendly sports so events can take place on a regular basis. They have previously included football and boccia. Some of the activities may be delivered through a partnership with other universities.
