I think finding people with similar interests is really one of the best things I've ever been able to do.

Pannya Rajput, BA (Hons) Film, Television and Radio Studies

Pannya Rajput, 21, from Singapore, studied Film, Television and Radio Studies and took the helm of the Staffs TV and OMG Radio student societies as station manager alongside her degree.

Both the television and radio station create student-focussed content and cover events on campus, giving members the opportunity to get hands on experience editing, directing, writing, producing, presenting and livestreaming.

Pannya said: “I wanted to leave a mark and start something that could really grow. I just think that the campus is such a vibrant community and if you're not capturing it every single second in some way, you're not doing it justice.”

“I thought it would be a really good experience to start a community where people could come in, give us their ideas, and we could harness the creative students on campus.”

Under Pannya’s direction, Staffs TV was shortlisted for ‘Best Live Broadcast’ at the National Student Television Association (NaSTA) Awards for a livestreamed 8-Ball Pool tournament between Staffordshire and Keele Universities.

Pannya embraced other opportunities during her studies, including being a student ambassador for the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA). She was also a regular contributor on BBC Radio Stoke, reviewing television shows.

“I got to go around the whole country, talk about the current problems that international students are facing and why it's so important to listen to them when it comes to designing higher education.

“Something I'm really proud of is that I now freelance with BBC Radio Stoke. It was quite a bit to juggle with my studies, but I think you only get to do your undergrad once. So, I took every opportunity that came my way!”

After graduating with a first class degree, Pannya is training to be a broadcast engineer with Matchroom, livestreaming sports events.

She added: “I think finding people with similar interests is really one of the best things I've ever been able to do. And I think that is what has made Staffs wonderful for me. If I could take anything with me from this, I'd take the people with me.”
