Our lanyards are already made from recycled plastic and now our student cards are no longer made from plastic (PVC). Instead, they’re made from ABS which is a recycled and recyclable material.

As part of its environmental sustainability strategy, the University has signed up to the One Planet Pledge and has committed to achieving a Carbon Net Zero position by 2030.

As part of the pledge, the University’s Student Connect team is helping to improve the environmental impact that our Student and external library cards have by changing our approach.

Kirstie Brookes, Customer Experience Manager at Student Connect explains, “Our lanyards are already made from recycled plastic and now our student cards are no longer made from plastic (PVC). Instead, they’re made from ABS which is a recycled and recyclable material. We are also changing our approach to providing physical student cards by reducing our physical card printing.”

Reducing the University’s environmental impact further, students studying at via distance learning, or through UK partner institutions, will no longer automatically be printed a physical card. Instead, students can access their Student ID digitally via the University’s student app and digital guide to student life, Beacon.
