Some of our most frequently asked questions can be found below. 

I use a motorcycle/scooter, will I pay the same as for a car?

Yes, permits cost the same for motorcycles as they do for cars.

Is there any discount for car sharers?

Not at present, however this is something that is been considered.

I have moved into a new house/I have a new/courtesy car. How do I change the details on my permit?

You can update your details by accessing your Car Parking Partnership (CPP) portal account.

When will I find out if I have been successful in my application?

Within 24/48 hrs of making your application.

I currently have a permit, will I have to re-apply again next year?

There is a full application process at the start of each academic year.

Will I be fined for parking at the start of the academic year before permits are issued?

The University recognises there will be a bedding in period allowing for applications to be processed.

What should I do if people are parking inconsiderately and have blocked my car in?

You can inform security of inconsiderate parking.

How long can I park for / Can I leave my car overnight?

If you have permit you can park your car overnight, if you do not have a permit the full tariff will apply.

I am going on maternity leave/sabbatical/long-term absence – am I able to suspend my parking permit?

Payments for permits are mad on a quarterly basis. If you do not require parking on campus you do not have to pay for a quarterly permit, you can pay each time you enter the campus.

I am pregnant, can I receive a supported accessibility permit?

You can apply for a permit which will be assessed by the University Occupational Health team.

Can minibuses and coaches park on campus?

At peak times it is not always possible to accept minis buses, if however, there is a parking space that can accommodate a minibus the appropriate tariff will apply.  For coaches it is advised that alternative off-site parking should be sought. There is 30 minutes drop off and pick up window for all vehicles arriving on the University campuses.

Are you going to be adding more car parking spaces?

The University are always looking at suitable locations to improve campus facilities.  Further information will be provided when new projects are confirmed.

What is the income from parking charges used for?

Parking revenue will be reinvested in parking technology management cost and infrastructure improvements.

Is there CCTV on the car parks?
Car parks ANPR covers all car parks while close circuit TV covers critical areas of the campus.
Why has my application been rejected?

If you live within two miles of the campus and do not fall within any supported criteria your application will not be accepted.

I have been locked out of my permit account. Who do I contact to get the account unlocked?
Can I charge my electric vehicle on campus?

The University has a number of EV charging points across its campus locations.  These are currently available to students and staff only.  Details on how to register to use this service, and the costs involved, are on our Electric Vehicle Charging at the University page.
