Kulwant Singh Boora, Esq.

Graduate story

U.S. Attorney

Attorney and lawyer, Kulwant Singh Boora, Esq., is the CEO and founder of The Boora Law Group PLC based in the State of Michigan, which he founded after moving to the United States of America over 15 years ago. As legal counsel, Attorney Boora represents a wide range of clients on criminal and civil litigation cases, having passed the state bar examination, in part, thanks to his undergraduate degree from University of Staffordshire, which contributed to the application process.

He is admitted to practice law in numerous Michigan State trial courts, including the Michigan Court of Appeals and Michigan Supreme Court and numerous Federal Courts i.e. U.S. Tax Court in Washington D.C., and native American Indian Tribal Court (Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi). He is pursuing admission to the United States Supreme Court the highest court in the United States of America and has published a book with practical advice, guidance and personal insight to help other aspiring foreign law graduates.

Mr. Boora completed his second Master of Laws (LL.M) in 2018 with University of Staffordshire, having already completed a LL.M from an American Bar Association (ABA) law school in the United States.

“I want to grow my practice and help others to see there is light at the end of the tunnel and not to give up on their dreams of becoming a lawyer,” Kulwant said. “My driving motivation to pursue law in the first place was to help others as much as I can.”

Studying Law

Kulwant was born and grew up in Birmingham, England in the UK, where he first studied law at college in Sutton Coldfield. His career began as an office clerk at the former firm Lee Crowder Solicitors, where he later worked in the litigation department.

He recalled “I never aspired to be a lawyer as a young teenager, but that changed dramatically when I worked at the firm. It inspired me into a career in law, having worked with some outstanding and reputable solicitors. My parents, grandparents and brothers and sisters were also very supportive of my ambition and goal to become a lawyer and I valued their support,”

His passion for helping others saw Kulwant study for a BA (Hons) at University of Staffordshire, having chosen the institution for its “outstanding reputation, flexible schedule and excellent tutors”.

After graduating, he migrated to the United States. Prior to becoming an U.S. attorney, he spent several years as a legal professional, working with attorneys across the country on various state and federal cases. He also worked for Fortune 200 and 500 businesses on national and international projects.

Law Practice

In 2016, Attorney Kulwant Singh Boora, passed The State Bar of Michigan examination and opened and launched his own law firm and practice, The Boora Law Group P.L.C. He explained “It was a very rigorous process just to be able to sit for the bar examination, but I was able to use my degree from University of Staffordshire as part of my application. The American bar examination is a very, very difficult bar examination and I was delighted to pass, thank God.”

To help others, Attorney Boora published a book to help other foreign aspiring lawyers and law students entitled “U.S Bar Admissions For Foreign Law Graduates and Foreign Lawyers Which Includes State Bar Rules and Case Law” which is available to buy through AmazonThe book provides great insight on using foreign education to seek access to the American bar for foreign law graduates and lawyers,” Kulwant said.

“Many people don’t know what an attorney does. An attorney does the exact same work as what a barrister and solicitor would do in the UK. In other words, an attorney is both a barrister and solicitor in one role in the United States. I want to encourage law students to keep at it. University of Staffordshire certainly helped me to achieve my goal and eventually open my own law practice. While the hurdles may be high, there is hope if you keep at it and follow your desire to become a lawyer. There are other highly recognized and valuable alternatives to a training contract or pupillage.”

Also, in recognition of his achievements, Attorney Boora was selected by the highly renowned Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers Risings Star for 2019, 2020 and 2021 and was selected and included in Who’sWho in America.
