Current Chairman and CEO of Wrights Food Group, Peter Wright is developing the brand to be a major force in the food industry.
It was not Peter Wright’s intention to join the family business growing up; his ambition was to become an airline pilot. But, after being persuaded to study Business at Cauldon College while he worked part-time at the family bakery in Shelton, he set on the journey to propel Wrights Pies into a multi-million pound empire.
Peter started on the shop and factory floor earning his place at the top after fulfilling roles ranging from engineering, customer service and marketing by setting Wrights Pies upon a campaign of remarkable success and growth. The family promoted him to Managing Director in 1992 at the age of 28.
Peter has been responsible for increasing company turnover by 1400%. The range of products has increased by 250% and the workforce has risen from 70 to 470 employees.
“I am sure my Grandfather, the Founder – John James Wright – would be very proud today to see what his family has achieved,” said Peter.
With plants in Stoke and Crewe together with a chain of 17 shops, it is an organisation making more than 600,000 products a day. Peter has the drive and determination to develop the Wrights Brand into a major force in the food manufacturing industry and plans to increase turnover to over £60 million within the next five years.
Outside of the business, Peter has raised £70,000 for the Parkinson’s Disease Society by walking 60 miles along the Great Wall of China.
The award of Honorary Doctor of Staffordshire University is bestowed upon Peter in recognition of his entrepreneurial vision in expanding his family business through tough economic times and Wrights Pies commitment to its 470 strong workforce in North Staffordshire and South Cheshire.
