The UniLife experience

Our annual residential is designed to raise aspirations and encourage students to achieve the highest grades and successfully progress to university.

Over two action- packed days and one night, students will get to experience university life for themselves. They’ll explore our state-of-the- art facilities and get hands-on with the equipment in subject workshops; tour the campus and discover some of the courses we have to offer; take part in team building activities and socialise in our Students’ Union. And at the end of the day they’ll get a good night’s sleep in our halls of residence.

Try your hand at a real life subject

Ever wondered how scientists fight disease, artists create cartoon characters or engineers design planes? Here’s your chance to explore the skills behind some amazing careers.

We’ve got an action-packed programme of activities to give you a taste of what you can study at university.

It could involve carrying out your own legal investigation and then presenting your evidence in a mock courtroom. We also have other exciting real-world facilities, including a simulated hospital ward and operating theatre, indoor and outdoor crime scenes and even a prison cell.

Come along to one of our taster sessions. We’ll be offering everything from Visual Effects and Virtual Production to Visitor Attraction and Resort Management. You may discover a whole new interest.

Fancy learning about:

  • The psychology behind how we behave – from understanding the criminal mind to how children develop
  • DNA profiling, fingerprint analysis and other forensic investigation techniques
  • Making your own films
  • How to create computer games and specialise in anything from 3D modelling to quest design
  • The power of artificial intelligence and how it’s being applied to everyday life
  • The jobs involved in running a theme park
  • How to help footballers cope with the pressures of the game and improve their performance
  • Designing new products, fashions and striking textile patterns

Food and drink

All food is provided. In fact you won't have to pay for anything during your stay. However, if you like to have a little extra, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to buy food and drink during the day. If you have any special dietary requirements, just make sure we know about it before you arrive.

University halls

You’ll be staying in one of our Halls of Residence. This is where most first year students who are not local to the university live during term-time. Males will sleep in rooms on one landing or building and females on another. You’ll also be sharing a landing with some of our Student Ambassadors.

Timetable

Our programme gives you the opportunity to take part in a number of activities to make the most of your time at Univesity of Staffordshire.

Day one

Our friendly student ambassadors will welcome you, show you to your accommodation and give you time to settle in. After a ‘get-to-know-you’ lunch, there’ll be fun, team-building activities.

Day two

This is a taster day when you’ll get to find out more about the subject you’ve shown an interest in and the skills you’ll need for career success. Depending on the subject, the day could involve workshops, lectures, group activities and more.

What's next?

If your application is successful, we will write to you to confirm your place and will also send some important forms, which must be completed and returned by the date stated in the letter. Once we have received your forms we will write to you with the travel arrangements. The University will be arranging and paying for everyone's transport. There will be no need for you to be out of pocket to enjoy this experience! We’ll contact you about travel arrangements nearer the time. You'll be met by our Student Ambassadors and probably some other UniLife attendees too.

Remember to read the information carefully and don't forget to read the list of items you will need to bring.
