The C3 Centre: Creative Industries and Creative Communities

A research project using the methods of contemporary Continental Philosophy to explore the contemporary issues in culture, politics, art and science.

The Philosophy team at Staffordshire University welcomes PhD proposals from prospective students in the field of Continental Philosophy. We offer close personal supervision via on-campus or distance learning routes to students in a wide variety of research areas in Continental Philosophy (20th and 21st Century European Philosophy, 20th Century French Continental Philosophy, Vitalism, New Materialisms and Poststructuralism). Our interdisciplinary approach and experienced research supervisors allow you to explore your area of philosophical interest in themes in relation to staffs existing research projects Film-Philosophy, Philosophy of Literature, Environmental Humanities.

Course requirements

A relevant first degree in Philosophy or a cognate subject (essential).

An MA or equivalent degree in a related topic/theme/discipline (essential). Evidence of relevant cognate commercial or industrial skills (desirable).

We are seeking outstanding applicants to develop doctoral research project on Continental Philosophy. Applications for this programme are welcome from suitably qualified candidates worldwide.

This PhD project offers expert supervision in Continental Philosophy. Dr Patrick O’Connor (philosophy) is an established researcher who has published on Continental Philosophy and a number of continental philosophers (Heidegger, Derrida, Badiou, Blanchot, Merleau-Ponty), and who is developing a project on film-philosophy. Prof. David Webb is an established researcher who has published on Continental Philosophy and a number of Continental Philosophers (Serres, Foucault, Heidegger). His current research interests are in the work of Michel Serres, philosophical engagements with climate, and the environmental humanities.
