As Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chief Executive, Sally is responsible for the University’s Financial, Commercial and Environmental Sustainability. As the Executive Lead for Sustainability, Sally is working with colleagues from across the University to ensure that Sustainability is embedded within the governance and reporting frameworks of the University in order to achieve the University’s strategic priorities. The University has set a target of 2030 to achieve a Carbon Net Zero position for scopes 1 and 2 and 2050 for scope 3.
Sally is also the Executive lead for a project to create a new Student Village for the University, consisting of 1,000 new and refurbished rooms, plus a student-focussed multi-function Hub. Financial close was achieved on 4 July 2024, and the Village is scheduled to be fully open in September 2026. The University has entered into a 50 year partnership with Staffordshire Campus Living, a consortium led by Hochtief and Plenary. The project will not only contribute to both the University’s and the UK’s carbon reduction targets, but will also provide an excellent and accessible study and living environment for students.
Sally was previously Chief Financial Officer at Durham University where she was the Executive Lead for a £225m Private Placement. She also led the procurement, negotiations and financial close for a DBFO agreement to create two new colleges totalling 1,000 beds.
Sally is a graduate of Durham University, where she studied modern languages, and holds a master’s degree from Sheffield University in Information Technology Management. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. On a voluntary basis, she is a Trustee of University of Staffordshire Students Union and a Trustee and Chair of the Finance and Resources Committee for the Laurus Trust, a Multi Academy Trust in the North West of England.
