I am a Lecturer in Policing in the Institute of Policing at the University. Before joining the University, I worked for Staffordshire Police for 30 years, retiring as a Police Sergeant in September 2017. I enjoyed a diverse & varied Policing Career including spells of Response, Major investigations &, Investigative services.
In 2003 I was seconded to the Government Office for the West Midlands (GOWM) as part of a team to review successful interventions in Reducing Youth Anti-Social Behaviour and subsequently produced the publication ‘Best Behaviour' outlining our findings. Whilst at GOWM I managed the region’s Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP) programme, Youth Engagement & Youth Spaces Projects & completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Sector Management at Birmingham University. In response to a rise gang related crime and anti-social behaviour I was co-author of ‘Reducing gang related crime: A systematic review of ‘comprehensive’ interventions.
In 2007 I returned to Policing and enjoyed spells on Response, Community Policing, Proactive Units & Investigative Services. The latter stages of my career were spent in the Integrated Offender Management Unit (IOM) where my responsibilities included Offender Management, setting up the Gangs Unit, Youth Offending and finally as lead for the Home Office GPS Tagging Pilot Scheme.
I am a great believer in the importance of Partnerships in addressing the challenges affecting Policing, The Criminal justice Service and society as a whole.
