Dr Nicholas Davies

Senior Lecturer

Health, Education, Policing and Sciences

I am a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology and a Clinical Tutor on the Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Training Programme. I joined the course team in May 2022 having previously trained as a Clinical Psychologist at Staffordshire University.

Since qualifying in 2010 I have specialised in working with children and young people presenting with a broad range of cognitive, behavioural and mental health concerns in both community and hospital-based services. Services have included Community CAMHS, Inpatient CAMHS, Paediatric Neuropsychology and a CAMHS Intellectual Disability Team. I have also worked as Lead Therapist on a national research project trialling Acceptance & Commitment Therapy with young people with a history of brain tumour. Working with individuals with intellectual disabilities (and their families and systems) is my primary clinical specialism and I am especially enthusiastic about the role psychology can play in supporting services to make adaptations and reasonable adjustments to their practice in order to promote inclusivity, equity and psychological well-being.

My other interests include developmental trauma and the impact of adverse childhood experiences on cognitive and interpersonal development, critical perspectives on diagnostic/medical models of child development and mental health, third-wave cognitive-behavioural approaches and positive behaviour support.
