I studied for my Nursing qualification at Staffordshire University, gaining Diploma and Registered Nurse qualifications in 1998. I then worked at Stafford General Hospital for 7 years, working from Staff Nurse Level through to Acting Ward Sister during which time I completed my BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies. In 2005 I moved into education undertaking a 12 month role as a Clinical Lecturer, linking between the University and associated student placement partners. Since then my title has changed a few times! I am now a seniorLecturer within the Adult Nursing team based at the Stafford (Blackheath Lane) site.

Expertise
My professional expertise revolves around nursing high dependency and acutely ill medical patients. I have a particular interest in Diabetes and care of the acutely ill adult. Clinical skills may be seen as my area of expertise and I am passionate about developing nurse education within this area. I have a keen interest in simulated learning and am actively involved in developing this area of the nursing curriculum.
Research interests
I am interested in the role of the nurse lecturer and the ability of simulated learning environments to authentically replicate clinical practice in order to aid knowledge and skills transfer from theory to practice. I have been involved in research within this area which led to a publication within the British Journal of Nursing (2013). More recently I have undertaken further research regarding the 'skills gap' from a students perspective, as part of my MSc Dissertation (2014). I have been involved in projects to develop IPE opportunities using simulated practice, in particular high fidelity simulation.
Teaching
I currently teach on various modules involving practical skills teaching, anatomy and physiology, change management and leadership and acute adult care. I am involved in teaching throughout the nursing programmes, in both pre and post registration modules.
