As the Executive Dean in the School of Health, Science and Wellbeing, Mike brings 20 years of experience as a clinician and leader in the NHS to one of the University’s three Schools. He is driven by a passion for enhancing safety through the lens of Human factors & Ergonomics, delivered using innovative pedagogies with simulation and immersive education at the core.
He has developed the ‘Simmersive’ approach including co-design of the innovative ‘Five Stage Approach’ to simulation at Staffordshire University and the development of estate and technological infrastructure to support the delivery of the very best in health and science education. This includes leading the delivery of the University’s Centre for Health Innovation in Stafford (https://www.staffs.ac.uk/about/facilities/campus-transformations/centre-for-health-innovation).
Mike has worked in a number of innovative roles in the health sector prior to moving into Higher Education on a full-time basis in 2017. His roles have included designing, developing and leading a team of practitioners delivering anaesthesia in a large acute NHS Trust. He also worked with numerous other NHS organisations and Private Sector providers to develop their workforces, as well as delivering commercial education programmes nationally and internationally.
