Mike retired as a Regional Director of St Modwen Properties Plc in September 2019, having worked for the company since 1990. He was responsible for the company’s development activities within North Staffordshire, bringing about the regeneration and redevelopment of many major brownfield sites in the area. These include major schemes such as Festival Park and Etruria Valley (the regeneration of the former Shelton Steel Works) and Trentham Lakes (the former Hem Heath Colliery).
Probably the most high profile scheme has been the restoration of the 725 acre Trentham Gardens estate, revitalising the beautiful historic gardens, park and lake, to create the Trentham Estate. It is now one of the region’s top tourist and leisure destinations, attracting millions of visitors each year.
Overall, during Mike's stewardship of St. Modwen’s North Staffordshire region, the company’s achievements in the area have included:
- 900 acres of brownfield land reclaimed/serviced
- Over 4 million square feet of commercial floor space
- Land reclaimed and serviced for nearly 2,000 new dwellings
- Over 12,000 jobs created on St. Modwen’s developments
- Around £940m value created in the local economy
Mike was also a Director of the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce until 2018, and was President 2009 to 2011. He is currently a governor of a local Junior School.
Born and bred in North Staffordshire, he is a keen long distance cyclist including riding from Land's End to John O’Groats and several other long distance events, an amateur enthusiast on local history, and an occasional golfer.
