Dr Mayowa Akinbote

Senior Lecturer

Digital, Tech, Innovation & Business

I joined Staffordshire Business School in September 2017 as a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance. Currently, I serve as the BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance Award Leader, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. I hold an MA in International Finance and a PhD in Finance. Additionally, I am a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), demonstrating my commitment to professional and academic excellence. I am also an external examiner for UK universities and actively participate in the awards validation panel for undergraduate and postgraduate programs across higher education institutions.

Before my academic career, I gained substantial experience as a Chartered Accountant in the public and private sectors. I managed capital and revenue budgets in the public sector, provided technical and financial advice to managers, and maintained strong relationships with auditors. My private sector work focused on audit procedures, forensic audits, self-assessments, and tax planning, including preparing statutory year-end accounts (CT600s) and submissions to HMRC for various clients.
