Matt Lewis

Technical Specialist-Digital Media Prod

Technical Services

I’ve worked within the education sector since 2007, dealing with a wide variety of students with mixed abilities and backgrounds, from primary school age, up to Masters students of all ages. The experience covered a wide variety of media formats, including Film, TV, Radio, Music, Animation, Photography, Visual Effects, Print, and Performance.

Sound has always been my passion; I graduated from Staffs with a First class BSc (Hons) in Music Technology, and it’s great to be able to pass on my knowledge and expertise to our future media professionals! Alongside this, I’ve toured the UK as a live sound operator for a traditional Irish band, as well as recording, producing and performing my own band’s music.

My inclination for working with media technologies has seen me move into a role that focuses on broadcast technology, which is a constantly evolving discipline, so it’s a great area to work in! This experience led to my involvement in project-based teams at Staffs, playing a central role in the development of new specialist facilities, such as the Esports Hub in Stoke, and Esports Arena in London. The success of these projects and the subsequent facilities led to me being shortlisted for the Times Higher Education ‘Outstanding Technician’ award in 2020.

Alongside my current role, I’m also completing a Level 5 ‘Operational and Developmental Managerial Apprenticeship’, with a view to consider a managerial role in future, if the opportunity arises.
