Martin Steventon

I am a Lecturer in Policing in the Institute of Policing at the University.

I have been the module leader for Level 4 of the new Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) and worked extensively with all our partner forces to develop the content of the first four-week module of the programme. I am now leading on the Policing Practice four-week module at Level 5. I also support the delivery of the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP), supporting new recruits from West Midlands Police, West Mercia Police, Warwickshire Police and Staffordshire Police. I am also the Institute's lecturing lead on promoting the effective and efficient use of technology to enhance the educational experience of students. My aim is to promote pedagogical principles that are specific to the use of technology to enhance our student's experience of distance learning.

Before joining the University I worked for Staffordshire Police, retiring in November 2017 as the operational manager of the forces Integrated Offender Management Team. I was previously the Deputy Local Policing Team (LPT) Commander for Newcastle Borough LPT in North Staffordshire. Prior to that, I was seconded to the Communities First Project Team at Staffordshire Police Headquarters. The team was set up to review all aspects of the force's business with a view to reforming services set against the challenges created by the Comprehensive Spending Review. I also spent the best part of two years as a Temporary Inspector working predominantly in response policing across Staffordshire, this included PACE responsibilities and monitoring the lawful and safe detention of persons in custody.

In 2012 I completed an MSc in Leadership and Management in Education achieving a distinction. I've always been active in my community, first becoming a school governor at a large secondary school in 1999 I became becoming Chair of Governors in 2005.
