Kay Dawson

At Staffordshire University I work as an Academic Tutor on the Step Up to Higher Education Foundation Certificate programme of study.

Within higher education I have been involved with teaching and coordinating Foundation Degrees, working closely with local businesses, looking at opportunities and skills gaps.

I led and managed the academic provision for the foundation degrees within Further Education and then at Staffordshire too. As well as project managing on “High House” an enterprise project focusing on student’s wallpaper designs being manufactured and sold. This highlighted just how powerful the nurture and support from the University can be, making a real difference to opportunities and outcomes. Alongside this I held the role of external examiner with Manchester Metropolitan University, verifying quality and provide continuing support.

My focus and passion is to motivate and support the transformation of life goals, through both education and personal mentoring. With a focus on barriers to learning with the harder-to-reach students to promote inclusion and instigate opportunities. Supporting them to develop positively to succeed and flourish in their professional and personal contexts.

Through my holistic reflective approach to teaching and learning, I enable students to gain confidence and take ownership of their own learning both academically and personally.
