Kairen started nursing in 1983, as a pre-registration ophthalmic nurse, after qualification completed her Registered General Nursing as Staffordshire. Since then, Kairen went on to have a career in Accident and Emergency after completing her Accident and Emergency certificate. In 1992, Kairen became a Specialist Practice Nurse and then advanced her skills as a non-medical prescriber. She has been in general practice for 32 years. Kairen joined Staffordshire University in 2009 as a Senior lecturer, teaching Respiratory care, long term conditions, and health care assistants, since then has developed nursing associate, and assistant practitioner qualifications and teaches The Fundamentals of Practice Nursing. Kairen also maintained a clinical role once a week until 2020. Since then, Kairen has grown general practice nurse education, respiratory care, long term conditions and health care assistant programs. Kairen has a passion for all her subjects, the courses she runs are always link theory to practice enabling all her students to think outside the box. Kairen has excellent links to clinical practice and has many members of the multidisciplinary team join her on her teaching programs.  She also won Living the values at Staffordshire university this year.
