James Vickers

Lecturer

Digital, Tech, Innovation & Business

Jay is the module leader for Game Engine Creation and lecturer for various other modules across programming and development. Jay has a background in computer science and quantum computing as well as graphical programming.

I graduated from Staffordshire University with a first-class degree with honours in Computing Science, in which I did my dissertation on an understanding and critical evaluation of quantum computing.

I first fell in love with gaming watching my dad play his Spectrum ZX and loading up games on cassette tapes! I got my first systems which were a Sega Master System 2 and a Commodore 64. Nowadays I play on PlayStation, Stadia, PC and X-Cloud. Ever since my first gaming system, I have been amazed at the graphics of the latest games and consoles. Seeing them improve over time from being in awe of Medal of Honour Frontline to Horizon Forbidden West, graphical programming has always interested me.

I am very excited to be helping students learn next-gen technologies. My own research interests focus on quantum computing, specifically quantum gaming.
