Edward Stanhope

Senior Lecturer

Edward graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2013 with a First Class (hons) Sports Therapy degree. Upon which he accepted an academic position with University College Birmingham teaching on the BSc and FdSc Sports Therapy programmes. In 2019, Edward completed his master’s in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at the University of Birmingham and a master’s in Clinical Trials from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, both with Distinction.

In 2019, Edward joined Staffordshire University where he contributes to both the undergraduate and postgraduate sport programmes. Edward currently leads the departments undergraduate research modules, including the undergraduate dissertation. In the same year, Edward accepted a part time position with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine as a Distance Learning Tutor, where he is now the deputy module lead for the CTM201 Trial Designs module.

Edward is now working towards his PhD at the University of Wolverhampton, where his work focusses on the influence of exercise/physical activity during the treatment continuum in women with breast cancer.

In addition to his PhD work, Edward is an active researcher and is involved in several international collaborations investigating the effects of exercise and non-communicable disease, cryotherapy and research methods. The CanDance trial, is a trial which has received funding from the University of Wolverhampton to assess the effects of a 12 week (3 days per week) dance intervention versus a 12 week partially supervised physical activity behaviour change intervention, using wearable technology, on quality of life, depressive symptoms and cardiorespiratory fitness in inactive older women with breast cancer post-adjuvant therapy, compared with a wait-list usual care condition
