I joined the Institute of Policing following my 30-year career with West Midlands Police. I now have the pleasure of teaching and supporting the delivery of Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) and Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP).
My career with West Midlands Police was broad and varied, exposing me to both uniform and detective roles throughout my service. I specialised in domestic abuse and was the subject matter expert for stalking behaviours and investigation, leading on the strategic and tactical delivery plans for the region. My expertise lies in identifying threat escalation in domestic abuse and stalking cases. Other roles included the challenging yet rewarding role of Hostage and crisis negotiator, public order commander, professional standards investigator, and detective roles investigating murder, robbery, rape, burglary and serious assaults.
At Staffordshire University, I am module lead for Policing Practice and Research Methods and supervise research dissertations at UG levels, covering sociological, criminological, and policing subject areas. I have recently completed research looking into the impact of the use of technology in the learning environment to enhance the student learning experience and am currently undertaking my MA Education.
I am the co-author for the design and implementation of the Home Office funded Stalking perpetrator intervention programme called EASI (Early Awareness Stalking intervention) and a member of the Homicide Timeline Group, specialists in the review of coercive control, stalking and homicide cases alongside the provision of professionals training. I am also a member of Staffordshire University’s Violence Against Women and Girls (SU-VAWG) Network.
