Baljeet Sidhu

I joined Staffordshire University as a lecturer in the Institute of Policing in October 2021, following a long, varied and exciting career in policing. I am passionate about delivering the best possible learning experience for our new students, through the degree apprenticeship and graduation programmes. I firmly believe that the ‘Higher Education’ programmes better equip our new generation of police officers with the tools in support of their operational skills to excel at their job. The programme assists in positively influencing students in becoming ‘thinking officers’ as they tackle modern challenges in policing.

Before joining Staffordshire University, I was an officer with the West Midlands Police for 30 years, retiring as a Superintendent with responsibility for local policing in the borough of Dudley. During my career with the police, I had the privilege to lead a number of teams and departments, to include Response, Neighbourhood, Traffic, Operations and Criminal Investigation Teams across the West Midlands region. I have extensive experience in strategic planning, delivering and leading on complex policing operations, critical incident and tactical firearms command, leading serious crime investigations, crises intervention and effective risk management. I always believed in putting the communities at the heart of service delivery and building police responses to local and wider issues through innovation, consultation, and energised partnerships.

I am multi-lingual, and can speak Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi fluently.

I have a Master’s degree in Applied Criminology and Police Management from the University of Cambridge.
