I am currently a Research Associate and PhD student. I have a combined clinical and health related research track record dating back more than 15 years. My main areas of research interests are as follows, but not limited to:
- Promoting and maintaining patient safety within clinical settings using quantitative data including use of routinely collected data.
- Development and promotion of research that is inclusive of all individuals including vulnerable persons and those from ethnic minority backgrounds.
- Patient and Public involvement to inform and support research.
- Use of quantitative data to inform current and future clinical practice.
- Promoting and supporting health care professionals to undertake high quality research.
I am currently working as a Research Associate on NuRS/AmRES Study funded for by Health Foundation, which is aimed at exploring workforce retention in the NHS and its impact on patient safety outcomes using routinely collected data. In this study will be using machine learning techniques to explore large datasets of routinely collected data to inform workforce planning, management, and patient safety across 30 NHS organizations.
As the chief investigator of my doctoral research project (Heel Pressure Ulcer Study) I am responsible for the study design, ethical approval application, conduct of the study protocol, analysis, and dissemination of study results. My doctoral research comprises three key research methods. The first is a systematic review to critically appraise the literature on risk factors for heel pressure ulcer development and is due to be submitted for publication imminently. The second is a case matched controlled study to ascertain the risk factors for heel pressure ulcer development and the third is a prospective cohort study to quantity the relationship between heel pressure ulcer development and mortality.
I have previously worked in various roles both as a nurse and clinical researcher. Some of the roles include theatre nursing, care of the elderly, heel pressure ulcer prevention, cancer, and orthopedics trials. Many of my activities in the clinical research roles involved designing studies through to dissemination of study results. I consider myself an advocate for inclusive clinical research, promote patient and public involvement to ensure research representative all the relevant population including those lacking capacity and ethnic minority individuals. I am also committed to supporting other health care professionals to undertake high quality research, ultimately improving patient care and their experiences of health care.
