Staffordshire University has ranked Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) recognising that its provision is ‘very high quality’.
“We have strong ambitions to provide outstanding experiences and outcomes to all students and by working together with our student community, we will continue to build on our success.”
The TEF 2023 ratings is a national scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS) that aims to incentivise excellence in teaching, learning and student outcomes.
Staffordshire University has been judged Silver overall as well as Silver in the Student Experience and Student Outcomes categories, recognising that “typically the experience students have at Staffordshire University and the outcomes it leads to are very high quality.”
The assessment was carried out in 2022-23 by the TEF Panel, a panel of academics and students who are experts in learning and teaching. The Panel findings also referenced “that the University’s approach to embedding teaching, feedback and assessment practices that are highly effective and tailored to supporting students’ learning, progression and attainment” is outstanding.
Professor Annabel Kiernan, Pro Vice-Chancellor – Academic, said: “This is testament to the hard work of colleagues across our University and their passion for providing the support students need to succeed. We also wish to thank the Students’ Union for their submission to the TEF which stated that assessment and feedback was a key area of strength for our university.”
“The student voice plays a huge role in helping our University to respond to issues as they occur and to make sustainable improvements to the student experience, from timetabling to disability access to buildings and Learning Support Statements.”
The student submission states that: “The Union feels that our contribution to university discourse and decision making as experts through experience is a strength for our institution, and certainly a position that we welcome and see as beneficial for both our students and our university. Our members’ representatives are genuinely engaged across the breadth of the university’s work, but especially through its academic governance structures.”
Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Martin Jones added: “We have strong ambitions to provide outstanding experiences and outcomes to all students and by working together with our student community, we will continue to build on our success.”
About the TEF:
There are three ratings categories signifying increasing degrees of excellence above TEF minimum quality requirements – Bronze, Silver and Gold. A university or college receives a lower category of 'requires improvement' if it has not shown enough evidence of excellence above minimum quality requirements. The ratings will last for four years, until the next TEF exercise.
