Student News Awards Spotlight Talented Presenters and Editors at Staffordshire University London

Staffordshire University London recently held its first annual student news awards for those who participated in Staffs LDN News.

Staffordshire University London (SUL) recently held its first annual student news awards, which recognises and celebrates the outstanding achievements of students who have participated in Staffs LDN news – a student-driven initiative that gathers information about university events and happenings to keep students informed. Students from various courses and years unite their efforts to bring the show together. The awards ceremony was held on the 13th of December in The Arena, and was attended by staff, and students from the university community.

The awards included a variety of categories, including Best Newcomer Award, Staff Vote of Excellence Award, Underrated Champion Award, and Student Choice Award. Students were nominated by their peers, their lecturers, and professional services staff from around the campus, for their outstanding contributions to informing students of upcoming events and stories from around the university.

The Student News Awards were a resounding success, with a high number of nominations received in each category. The awards highlighted the exceptional talent and dedication of Staffordshire University London's students, and they served as a testament to the university's commitment to fostering personal growth.

Winner for Best Newcomer award, Evie Russ, mentioned "Winning this award means a lot to me, it’s an honour to be recognised for my achievements, and I'm grateful that my contributions, though often unseen behind the camera, are appreciated and deemed worthy of this award." Evie mentioned while originally started as a presenter, found her calling behind the scenes of Staffs News by operating the camera and rigorously editing the news bulletins.

The Student News Awards were not just about celebrating individual achievement; they also served to foster a sense of community among Staffordshire University London's students. Vishnu Jayachandran who won Staffs Vote of Excellence, mentioned, “Participation in Staffs LDN News has helped to improve my research, and communication skills. Additionally, working with our team has made it possible for me to hone my skills in delivering information for our viewers”. The awards ceremony provided an opportunity for all students involved, whether that included directing, camera operation, lighting, and sound production, and presenting to come together and recognise the contributions of their peers.
