GradEX23: Student showcase attracts top talent from across the industry

Staffordshire University London's final-year students displayed their innovative projects at the GradEX23 showcase.

Congratulations to Yumi Verna who won her Star Student Placement Officer (SPO) Award.

GradEX 23 gave students the opportunity to showcase their skills and talents which they have learned through their university journey.

Students from across the university had the opportunity to show their projects, research, and inventions to more than 200 industry professionals at the event, which took place alongside the annual Degree Show. Yumi Verna, a Cyber Security (BSc Hons) student, was among them and emerged as the winner of the prestigious Star Student Placement Officer (SPO) Award.

Yumi, said: "GradEx was an amazing experience. The atmosphere was electric, and the travel to Stoke-on-Trent was a great way to see a new city. I loved having the opportunity to show off my hard work and be awarded for my achievements. GradEx is a truly unique event that I would recommend to any student.”

Other incredible achievements at the event include Kian Bridge, who was nominated alongside Yumi Verna for the Student Connect SPO Award. Fatema Hussain and Harry Cooling also secured impressive third-place finishes in Computer Science and Games Design, respectively.

Leon Kershaw, Computer Games Design (BSc Hons) student mentioned, “I had a great time at GradEx 2023 with my fellow games design students. It was inspiring to see the diversity of final year projects, and I learned a lot from talking to industry professionals. I would highly recommend GradEx to prospective students as it is a great opportunity to get feedback on your work, network with industry professionals, and meet other students with similar interests.”

Philippa Spanos, Head of Student and Employability stated: "GradEX 23 gave students the opportunity to showcase their skills and talents which they have learned through their university journey. Additionally, it provides an excellent opportunity for final year students to gain exposure by adding their final year project to our online portal which is shared with our extensive contacts in industry and our alumni partners. The portal that we created to showcase the students' work is also still open, giving employers the opportunity to browse and recruit the incredible talent that we have at Staffordshire University London.”
