SUL Students win bronze at Hackathon Event

Two students from Staffordshire University London won third place in a global hackathon event.

It really allowed me to test my knowledge and skills as well as research into areas, which is new to me and for that I am very grateful.

Final year Computer Science students, Dian Doshchannikova and Aaron McCann, took part in the Cyrene Project, an EU-funded Cyber Security Project which looks at creating solutions to real-life challenges faced by organisations all over the world.

The hackathon involved more than 24 participants from 10 global universities such as Stockholm University and Technical University of Crete, as well as organisations such as Valencia Port and Fiat.

Final year computing student, Dian said: “It was a challenging but really interesting opportunity to be part of. It really allowed me to test my knowledge and skills as well as research into areas, which is new to me and for that I am very grateful.”

Lecturer Mohammad Heydari, who helped to facilitate the hackathon said: “I am very proud of our students for getting bronze. They really worked hard to push themselves and explore new areas, as well as having to go against big name companies and universities was tough but they definitely triumphed.”
