Our Business Management course is designed specifically for MOD personnel.

This award is ideal for personnel who are progressing in their career and are beginning, or have aspirations, to take on a more responsible role requiring business management skills,

It is also suitable for personnel who have non-business HNC/HND qualifications (perhaps computing, arts or health) who wish to move into management.

The award enables you to move into degree-level study at the ‘pace-and-place’ that suits you, particularly if you are in employment.

The award is delivered in blocks, with a combination of online directed learning mixed with a degree of face-to-face tuition.

Course content

You will acquire and understand academic knowledge and be able to confidently apply it in practice through being an adept communicator and team worker. You will develop effective interpersonal skills, be critical (and able to accept and build on criticism), have the ability to solve problems, make decisions and be able to manage your own time.

The total course fee is: £4,500

Modules

The tables provide an indicative list of the modules that make up the course for the current academic year. Each module is worth a specified number of credits. Our teaching is informed by research, and modules change periodically to reflect developments in the discipline. We aim to ensure that all modules run as scheduled. If for any reason a module cannot be run we will advise you as soon as possible and will provide guidance on selecting an appropriate alternative module where available.

Entry requirements

This programme is for anyone who has completed a Foundation Degree in Business Management, Leadership and Management or Human Resource Management, and also for those who have completed an HND in a business or management related area, or an ILM/CMI Diploma.

We also welcome enquiries from personnel who have worked in management positions for a number of years and have reached the rank of SNCO or above.

Teaching and assessment

Teaching

You'll be an active learner interacting with content, your fellow students and your module tutors. Support is available when you need it. You can contact your module tutor, your personal tutor, Information Service staff and subject specialist librarian by phone, email or in person.

Our teaching is supported through our Virtual Learning Environment called Blackboard. This means you can access a range of materials to support your studies wherever you are via your PC, tablet or phone. This includes accessing video, audio and discussion forums where you can debate subjects with your tutors and fellow students.

Assessment

All modules are individually assessed via one or more methods dependent upon the requirement of that module. The method of assessment is chosen to ensure that we can verify that you have met the learning outcomes of the module.

These methods may include individual written reports, reflective journals and class tests.

Assignment submission and feedback will be via Blackboard Learning Portal or via individual email. Practical assessments may be done online but sometimes may involve attendance at the University. Module results will also be made available electronically.

Learning support

A personal tutor will be appointed who is a subject matter expert. Support for any modules will be conducted face-to-face, via email, or telephone.

Additional support

Our AccessAbility Services support students with additional needs such as sensory impairment or learning difficulties such as dyslexia.

Feedback

Your course will provide you with opportunities to test your understanding of your subject informally (through formative feedback) before you complete the formal assessments. Each module normally includes practice or 'formative' assessments for which you receive feedback from your tutor. Practice assessments are developmental and any grades you receive for them do not count towards your module mark but are essential for you to develop academically as a student. There is a formal or 'summative' assessment at the end of each module and the grades from formal assessments count towards your module mark. You will normally receive feedback on coursework assessments within 20 working days following the date of submission. The feedback you receive will help to focus you to achieve better grades on the next set of modules you study.
