Last month, final year coaching students had the opportunity to join a practical coaching session delivered by Staffordshire University alumni, Megan Baldwin and Olivia Taylor.
Delivered as part of the “Contemporary Issues in Sports Coaching” module, students were encouraged to explore sociological theories and apply them to contemporary issues in sport. These sessions are used to embed the knowledge acquired from lectures and seminars by applying them in a practical environment.
Course leader, Jack Bullock, comments:
“This session is an example of the kinds of enrichment we embed within our curricula to ensure students have the best possible experience during their time in the Department of Sport and Exercise. Our final year students are currently grappling with some complex sociological theory as part of the Contemporary Issues in Sport Coaching module, and this session with Megan and Olivia provided them with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and test their understanding in a fun, engaging, and educational practical setting. Added to that is the fact that our guests are alumni who excelled with us at Staffs and are living examples of what our students can go on to as a result of their time here.”
Staffordshire University regularly invites guest speakers from industry and our alumni community to share their experiences and expertise with our students. The sessions are designed to showcase expert teaching and the possible career opportunities available to graduates.
Megan is Head of Sport & PE at a local Academy and Olivia is a currently completing her Postgraduate Certificate in Education and Training (PCET) at a local college with the ambition of becoming a lecturer.
