Why MA Continental Philosophy at University of Staffordshire?

Joshua Hill

For my undergraduate degree, I studied business and Philosophy in the U.S. and found out about this directly after graduation through a Google search. I knew I wanted to continue my education but also knew that I needed to also prioritize my career in Business.

I chose to study with the University of Staffordshire for their inexpensive and flexible program that would enable me to continue learning philosophy at a high level, without sacrificing any years away from my primary career.

Continental Philosophy has also always been the most interesting field of study, so I was thrilled to find a program with a focus that interested me greatly.

How have you found studying through distance learning?

My experience with the course has been overwhelmingly positive! Despite living overseas, I'm able to study at my own pace asynchronously with no interruptions to work or social obligations.

I'm also an auditory learner and I appreciate how material is always presented in multiple accessible formats (audio, text, html, beeline reader, etc).

What have been the main benefits of studying the course?

The structured environment of the program has allowed me to engage with Philosophy at a deep level again. Since it is at a graduate level, you really only engage with people who are as committed to learning as you are.

Of all the amazing things to say about the course, the main benefit has been the staff. They really care about the course content, the details of the course, the format, and our learning outcomes.

My professor (Dr. Patrick O'Connor) regularly replies to my emails and discussion posts with 15-minute voice recordings to make sure he is giving me tailored guidance that supplements from not being in-person.

Overall, I have been thoroughly impressed by how great the course content is, the format in which it is presented, and the people who make it work so well.
