Freedom Law Clinic Home Features Freedom Law Clinic Freedom Law Clinic Students on the Freedom Law Clinic project with Law Course Director Anna Garland and Criminology Senior Lecturer Louis Martin. Twelve Law and Criminology students from the University of Staffordshire are currently developing their knowledge and professional skills in the field of criminal appeal cases, thanks to the Freedom Law Clinic’s work experience project. The Freedom Law Clinic combines online learning with real life casework, ensuring that students are developing the skills they need for a career in the criminal justice sector. Gaining a place on the programme required students to make a formal application and face a panel of Law, Criminology and Careers staff in interview. This offered students an excellent opportunity to develop key employability skills for future job applications after graduation. For these twelve students, this project is more than just a line on their CVs—it's a unique opportunity to put their knowledge into practice guided by criminal law practitioners in weekly online sessions. As they work on a real-life case they are gaining insights and experiences that will help shape their future careers. The next criminal law opportunity open to Law students is a week-long online experience with the Crown Prosecution Service in April 2025, while students with an interest in other areas of law, such as Family, Employment and Housing Law work with the university’s Legal Advice Service: they give free legal advice to members of the local community supervised by staff who are practising solicitors. All these opportunities support students in developing important skills for professional practice. Related courses Law LLB (Hons) Optional pathways in Bar, Digital, Legal Professional.
