Jashandeep's GradEx presentation earned a prize from the local IET network. She secured a graduate role with GE Vernova.
Specialist Electrical or Electronics and Telecommunications pathways
The Electrical and Electronic Engineering students have had an exciting and busy semester. Our second year students have been starting their specialist modules for either the Electrical or Electronics and Telecommunications pathways. The first year students are working on their Professional Development module that incorporates sessions on electrical and electronic design and analysis skills with career development sessions to help them find their future direction.
Our final year students are getting towards the end of their Engineering Project module now and putting the final hours in to develop their project and put their final report together, there’s some exciting projects looking at microcontrollers, machine learning and robotics. These will be showcased at GradEx with industry judges reviewing and awarding prizes.
Foundation students have been learning about engineering principles and getting practical experience with the labs, as well as having specialist lectures to support their analysis skills so they can build on those in future years.
Impressive Graduate Roles
Jashandeep graduated last year from the course, she’s now in a graduate role with GE Vernova and recently published a paper based on the work of her final project in Energies Journal.
She used a wavelet-based approach to detect and localise faults in high-voltage, direct current (HVDC) grids improving the stability of our energy networks. She presented the project at our GradEx event last June and was awarded a prize by the local IET network for her work.
What's next?
Electrical and Electronic students will get to network and gain insights from industry through guest lectures from a recent graduate now working in the Electrical industry. Final year students are further preparing their Final Year Projects which they will showcase to industry at GradEx. This is also a valuable opportunity to network with potential employers. Guest judges will be attending from national and local industry.
