Work experience

We take the challenge of work experience very seriously. Combined with academic study, students will be able practise interview, negotiation and advocacy skills within their modules as well as problem-solving, presentation and communication skills. All courses require students to reflect on the value of work experience and we offer a range of work experience opportunities.

You may also have the opportunity to participate in:

  • Annual Law Careers and Networking Fair to allow you to develop professional contacts.
  • Staffordshire University Law Clinic (SULAC) providing you with authentic practice-based learning with real clients.
  • Student Conferences designed to enhance employability and graduate skills.
  • Opportunities to take part in national competitions such as client interviewing and negotiation.
  • A mooting module and advocacy competitions for budding advocates.
They include real-life scenarios and high-profile cases.

They include real-life scenarios and high-profile cases. We also get to practice our skills in the University's mock courtrooms. Through skills I picked up at the careers days, I was confident enough to approach several law firms for placements. I worked in Chambers in both Stoke and Nottingham and shadowed a judge in Walsall. The experience was incredible.

I gained the academic knowledge, skills and abilities to make me employable. I've now managed to break into the profession I was aiming for, working with the Home Office for UK Border Control, and managing a team responsible for the improvement of the asylum seeker, immigration and entry clearance appeals process.

Staffordshire University provided me with expert teaching of critical skills required to enter the legal profession.

The legal practice course at Staffordshire University provided me with expert teaching of critical skills required to enter the legal profession. The practical nature of the course meant I was able to begin my first post graduate legal role and know what was expected from day one which is invaluable when acclimatising to the legal work environment.
