Careers and connections in Education, Children and Teaching

Undergraduate

A commitment to student success powered by excellence, research and sector-leading developments in learning and teaching, everyday practice and curriculum development.

At University of Staffordshire, we want to create teachers and educators that love what they do and want to make a difference. We will encourage you to be passionate and resilient, with a love for learning and the connected curriculum; critically reflective, curious and daring; confident researchers who inform practice; and are community centred.

We offer personalised, supportive teaching and opportunities to engage with local and school communities, giving you exciting, hands-on experiences. In the past, for example, our students have visited schools in Prague to explore their teaching methods. They have also undertaken placement and work experience abroad in countries such as Holland, Spain and China. Closer to home, they have explored diverse habitats and studied minibeasts with pupils in our 10-hectare nature reserve within the Woodlands Forest School, and organised basketball and table tennis sessions in Hanley Park to encourage locals to make more use of sports facilities.

Work experience

University of Staffordshire's Institute of Education works with 50+ high performing early years settings and schools within the local area and beyond, to give you work placements where you’ll learn from professionals with direct experience and how to make a valuable contribution as an individual and as part of a team.

Our work placements let you explore how you see yourself and your role within a professional working environment. You will focus on how you work individually and in teams, and how you contribute to the aims, ethos and culture of the workplace.

During your placement, you’ll be supported by a work-based supervisor within the setting and receive feedback on your performance and contribution. We also work with international university partners to provide placement and work experience opportunities abroad. Previous locations have included Holland, Spain and China.

I completed three work placements a year at local schools and taught a range of pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The staff at the schools always made sure they were available and taught me how to be a professional. If you say you're from University of Staffordshire when on placement, people know they have a quality student.
