Charlotte enjoyed her undergraduate degree at University of Staffordshire so much that she stayed on to complete a PhD and her research has received international acclaim.
Charlotte Orphanau was initially attracted to study Forensic Science after seeing the University’s facilities and loved her time on the course.
“It was all about the course – I absolutely adored it! When I was first looking at universities to study forensic science I found that the facilities here were so much better compared to everywhere else.” she explained.
“I just loved getting involved in the projects because that was my chance to show what I could do. It was an opportunity where I was given free reign and because I enjoyed it so much at undergrad, that’s why I wanted to do my PhD.”
Charlotte’s PhD studies focused on alternative methods of identifying bodily fluid stains at crime scenes and her research was showcased in international journals including Forensic Science International receiving positive feedback from peers.
“The lecturers are so experienced and have so much knowledge between them in all the different areas within Forensic Science. So it was really encouraging when they said ‘Yes, I think you can do this. Go for it and see what happens!’”
“University of Staffordshire is a fab place to be, it’s such a welcoming and nice unit. It doesn’t matter what course you’re on you make friends. The support from the lecturers is fantastic so it’s definitely worth coming here.”
Since completing her PhD Charlotte landed a job as a Process Development Scientist with pharmaceutical company Porton Biopharma Ltd. She is now the CMC manager at SERB Pharmaceuticals, a role she has been in since 2023.
