Home About Facilities Technical X-ray Diffraction (XRD) laboratory X-ray Diffraction (XRD) laboratory XRD is a spectroscopic technique where incident x-rays interact, then diffract with atoms in the crystal matrix of a material, and angles are measured to determine their structure. The Bruker D8 ADVANCE has the ability to measure a range of sample types, from liquids to loose powders, from thin films to solid blocks. Different academic areas such as Forensic Science, Geography, Biology and Engineering use XRD to analyse materials such as metals, paints, polymers, drugs and thin films to determine different structural properties.
