You must attempt every assessment you are given to do to pass a module. However, you do not have to get a pass mark in every assessment in order to pass the module overall. A pass mark for undergraduate students is 40% and for postgraduate students it is 50%.
Below is an example of a module in which only one assessment is passed, but the overall module score is a pass.

If you are studying on a course which leads to registration in a profession such as nursing or teaching, your professional body may require you to pass every assessment. If this applies to you, your Course Handbook will give you more information.
Sometimes, students may need to carry out a re-sit to achieve an overall module pass mark. Where this is the case, we will always use the highest mark you have achieved in an assessment to work out your module score. Below is an example in which scores achieved at first sit and re-sit attempts are combined to create an overall pass mark. We call this-the highest mark stands.
