The NSS is an independent survey that gathers final year undergraduate students’ opinions on the quality of their course. The findings help prospective students make informed choices and provide institutions with data to continually improve on student experience.
The University has made some real gains against the sector this year with overall positivity improving by 2.2% against a sector improvement of 1.14%.
Areas of best practice highlighted by this year’s survey include:
• accessible and responsive teaching staff for their support and encouragement in overcoming challenges
• engaging course content, relevant to future careers, with practical elements like simulations highly appreciated
• the development of industry-relevant skills and personal growth throughout their courses
• valuable opportunities for personal and professional development through placements, industry contacts, and events
At course level, the following courses achieved 100% positivity in 1 or more of the 7 themes:
BA (Hons) Graphic Design
BA (Hons) Surface Pattern and Textile Design
BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy
BSc (Hons) Policing and Criminal Investigation
BSc (Hons) Nursing Practice (Adult)
BSc (Hons) Professional Policing
BSc (Hons) Forensic Psychology
BSc (Hons) Cyber Security at SUL
FDSC Nursing Associated at Stafford
Commenting on the results, Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Annabel Kiernan said: “NSS is an important indicator of how universities are performing against sector benchmarks and, more importantly, how they are living up to promises made to students.
“We are delighted that our students value the level of personal support and encouragement they get from their lecturers.
“Added to that, students are genuinely appreciative of the University’s investment in simulated learning, their opportunities for personal growth and their industry relevant teaching. This ties in with the fact that we were recognised in the Top 10 for Career Prospects in the What Uni Student Choice Awards 2023.
“Providing an excellent student experience remains a top priority and there is always room for further improvement. We will be working hard across the University to address issues raised by our students.”
